Project Description

One of the fastest growing cities in the nation for more than a decade, the City of Georgetown’s water utility faced numerous challenges by early 2024 when it hired Buie & Co. to help with public relations and community engagement. Our goal was to educate its customers about all the City was doing to expand and diversify its water supply and improve its water infrastructure.

We began with a deep dive into technical planning reports and council presentations, followed by in-depth discussions with City officials about the city’s ongoing efforts and concerns.

Buie & Co. then created detailed comprehensive messaging explaining the challenges, proposed solutions and ongoing efforts in simple language all could understand. We used this language to create fact sheets, FAQs, and a community road show presentation and script. We also created colorful custom graphics and other visual aids to help present complex information more clearly and effectively.

Hired for a two-year engagement, Buie & Co. has continued working with the City of Georgetown as it has progressed negotiations on several water supply agreements and transactions. We’ve continuously updated messaging and presentations and helped city leaders prepare for media interviews and issue statements.

Fast-growing communities throughout Texas are becoming increasingly concerned about securing enough water to meet future needs as the state regulatory environment and funding have failed to keep pace with needs. The City of Georgetown has set a good example for responsible planning and transparency as it navigates a new era in which water has become far more difficult and expensive to obtain than in the past. We are grateful for the opportunity to work with this excellent team and for all that they have taught us.
