Houston-based developer Highland Resources seized a unique opportunity to reinvent a prominent corner in Central Austin, a site the company has owned since the 1980s. In 2014, the Highland team was ready to move forward with its landmark office and retail development, Lamar Central.
With existing tenants still onsite, an active neighborhood and business community in close proximity, and an aggressive construction timeline, Highland enlisted Buie & Co. to manage the public relations and community outreach efforts for the duration of the development process.
For more than two years, Buie & Co.’s work focused on project messaging, media relations, neighbor relations, website development, marketing support, internal communications, event support and social media. On any given day, our team could be found visiting with nearby business owners, snapping progress photos or hard-hat ready, touring media around the construction site.
From the get-go, Buie & Co. established an open line of communication with the surrounding neighborhood and businesses. Through regular “Meet the Developer” events and door-to-door engagement, Highland Resources became known as a trusted community partner and a group that worked with stakeholders during all stages of design and development. As construction progressed, the neighborhood received regular project updates, including any upcoming road closures, community news and construction progress. We also established a project hotline and email, so stakeholders could always reach the team with questions or concerns.
